Field Service Technician (TFE)
Job Description:
The Field Service Technician position is responsible to support Operations by providing professional service and support for Remtec Automation customers. Responsibilities include performing test and debug of robotic automation equipment before shipment, performing field service installations, startup, repairs, and maintenance of Remtec Automation equipment. The Field Service Technician will work within the guidelines established by the employee manual, company policy and follow the established procedures when representing Remtec Automation.
This position will be an integral part of the project team by supporting engineering, shop, and customers. This role shall also look for and implement Continuous Improvement strategies at all times.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform scheduled and un-scheduled maintenance of equipment and associated equipment at customer facilities
- Provide installation expertise at customer sites as well as conducting pre-installation assistance
- Read and review blueprints, plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare for startup or service.
- “Hands on” experience with mechanical equipment, gear reducers, motors, hydraulics, control panels, PLCs (Allen Bradley/Mitsubishi), vision systems, motion controls (servos, etc.), robotics programming (Fanuc) and associated robot requirements and knowledge, other typical requirements not listed.
- Work with engineering, project management, and operations management groups to resolve escalated problems
- Provide written service & expense reports on all activities carried out on site and complete all required documentation in a timely manner
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures at all times. Develop and maintain safe habits and practices with regard to safety requirements and report any breaches or concerns on health and safety matters to the Operations Manager or company management
- Must be self-motivated with ability to work & think well independently
- Overtime may be necessary as workload dictates. This may include weekdays or weekends.
- Installation responsibilities include technical consultation and installation assistance to on-site personnel or contractor
- Startup responsibilities include customer pre-consultation, site readiness preparation, startup monitoring, assist and train
- Troubleshooting responsibilities include determining causes of operating errors and taking action to remedy the problem.
- Take after hours calls on the service phone
- Must have a good grasp of root cause analysis
- Travel up to (40%)
- Perform startup, testing and debugging of hardware and software.

- Robot Programming (Fanuc Experience Preferred)
- PLC based servo setup and programming experience with DeviceNet, CC-Link, and Ethernet IP Networks/Devices
- Setup any controls hardware required for the system including remote I/O devices, RFID devices, Vision Systems, Servos, etc.
